Operation, Safety & Maintenance

Chainsaws

It is important you read this data sheet fully before operating this chainsaw

Pre Start Checks

The following pre-start inspection should be performed at the beginning of each work session. If a fault is encountered this must be rectified before carrying on.

1.  Thoroughly inspect the chainsaw – paying particular attention to the bar, and kick back protection device. Ensure these are secured correctly.

2.  Check the chain tension. It should have approximately 5mm play when you pull it downwards from the underside of the bar.

3.  Check the machine is filled with the correct fuel mix.

4.  Clean any debris from where the chain enters and exits the motor housing.

Switching On & Off

1.  Place the saw on level ground.

2.  Turn the choke to the on position.

3.  Prime the fuel bulb

4.  Hold the saw steady by placing one hand on the black handle pressing downwards. This leaves the other hand free to start the engine.

5.  Pull the starter cord, letting it return gently.

6.  To turn off, move the starter switch to the off position.

Suitability

These saws are designed for medium duty cutting jobs.. Ensure you match the machine correctly with it’s intended purpose.

Operating Tips

Hold the saw with one hand on its handle, and the other on the trigger grip  Always keep the hand holding the handle straight to protect yourself against possible kick-back.

Consider your strategy before cutting. Failure to do so could result in a trapped saw, or serious injury.

If the kick-back device engages you must disengage it before carrying on. Stop the saw and pull it back towards the trigger.

For long cutting jobs be prepared to top up the chain oil regularly.

Transportation

The chainsaw can be transported in a car, or station wagon. Take care to keep the motor covered to eliminate the risk of dripping oil or fuel in your vehicle or on clothing. Protect vehicle upholstery and soft coverings from the sharp blade.

Safety Precautions

Take time to read the operator's manual before using the chainsaw. Safety instructions and safety symbols offer the best defence against an accident and injury.

Know what you're doing before you start a chainsaw. Untrained operators are more likely to cause accidents.

When operating the chainsaw watch for bystanders, children, and pets. Keep them at least 8 metres away – more depending on the size of the trees you are cutting - for safety.

Wear full eye and hearing protection when operating a chainsaw..

Wear protective clothing when using a chainsaw. Long pants, steel toe shoes, and gloves are best. Don't wear loose clothing.

If you have long hair, keep it secure above the shoulder while operating a chainsaw..

Alcohol, medications, drugs, fatigue, and illness increase the chance of accidents and injury. It's best not to operate a chainsaw under these conditions.

Chainsaw safety tips: Keep firm footing and balance; don't overreach; be sure lighting conditions are adequate; keep your body away from the moving chain and hot surfaces. Be sure to keep the chainsaw head below waist level.

Use the chainsaw only for trees. It's not designed to trim shrubbery, climbing ivy, weeds, grass or other greenery not at ground level.

Before each use, inspect the chainsaw for loose fasteners, chain, guards, fuel leaks, and a cracked or cutting bar. Replace damaged parts.

Never start or run an engine inside a closed area. BREATHING EXHAUST FUMES CAN KILL.

For two-cycle engines, follow fueling and premixing instructions carefully. Wipe up any fuel spillage quickly to prevent the possibility of fire. Immediately replace fuel cap to minimize pollution and reduce chance of fire or explosion.

Why do I need to run my unit at full throttle?
Answer: Running the engine at full throttle will allow the engine to burn the fuel mixture effectively and reduce carbon buildup at various points in the engine. It will also allow the unit to operate at its most efficient performance level.

How do I start the engine when the unit is hot?
If the engine is already warm, put the choke in the run position. Hold the throttle in the wide-open position and pull the starter rope until the engine starts.
